Dance to the Music poised and ready for Del Mar Debutante

DEL MAR, Calif. – Dance to the Music has been a poised filly at Del Mar this summer, in the manner she won her debut in a maiden race on July 24 and her training over the last five weeks.
That’s the perspective of trainer Mark Glatt, who is hopeful Dance to the Music will leave Del Mar a Grade 1 stakes winner. Owned by Red Baron’s Barn and Rancho Temescal, Dance to the Music rates as a leading contender in Sunday’s $300,000 Del Mar Debutante at seven furlongs, the summer meeting’s top race for 2-year-old fillies.
“She’s done very well since her last race,” Glatt said. “She ran well and did it very professionally.”
Dance to the Music worked six furlongs in a quick 1:12.60 on Aug. 23. Monday, she officially worked five furlongs in 1:00.60, but Glatt said that was a gallop-out time after a half-mile work in 48.40 seconds.
Dance to the Music won her debut at 5 1/2 furlongs. Abel Cedillo was aboard for that win and will have the mount in the Debutante, Glatt said. Purchased for $575,000 at a 2-year-olds in-training sale earlier this year, Dance to the Music broke sharply in the July 24 maiden race, pulling away by 4 3/4 lengths.
The Debutante is expected to have a very good field, led by the stakes winners At the Spa and Elm Drive, the stakes-placed Eda, the maiden race winners Ain’t Easy, Grace Adler, Myfavoritedaughter, and Rock the Belles, and the maiden Very Scary.
Monday, Eda, second by a head to Elm Drive in the Grade 2 Sorrento Stakes at six furlongs on Aug. 6, worked six furlongs in 1:12.40 for trainer Bob Baffert. Grace Adler, a maiden race winner at 2-5 on July 31, worked six furlongs in 1:13.80 for Baffert.
