Dams of Funtastic, Delta Prince add to stellar produce records

Two of the most successful broodmares of the 21st century continued to deliver on Saturday, when both were represented by a new graded stakes winner.
Funtastic, stakes-placed last year, became the latest Grade 1 winner out of Quiet Dance when he won the United Nations on the Monmouth Park turf. Meanwhile, Delta Prince, multiple graded-placed last year, broke through to win the Grade 2 King Edward Stakes at Woodbine to represent the late dam Delta Princess.
Stakes winner Quiet Dance, by Quiet American, produced 12 winners from as many starters, led by 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam. She also produced Grade 2 winner Quiet Giant, Grade 3 winner Congressionalhonor, stakes winner Dance Quietly, Grade 1-placed Miss Besilu, and Grade 2-placed American Dance. Quiet Giant went on to produce 2017 Horse of the Year Gun Runner.
Funtastic, by More Than Ready, was bred by Besilu Stables, which acquired Quiet Dance out of the dispersal of the late Edward P. Evans. Funtastic now races for Three Chimneys Farm.
“I knew it was a tough race,” trainer Chad Brown said. “The owner, Goncalo Torrealba, really deserves most of the credit here. He was sure this horse could stay a distance of ground in the mile-and-an-eighth, mile-and-a-half races, in the Grade 1 class.”
Graded stakes winner Delta Princess, a daughter of A.P. Indy, produced seven winners from as many starters, led by three-time Eclipse Award champion Royal Delta. Her foals also include Grade 1 winner Crown Queen, Grade 1-placed Carnival Court, and Grade 2-placed Empire Way.
An Adena Springs homebred by Street Cry, Delta Prince is the final foal out of Delta Princess, who was euthanized in 2015 at the relatively young age of 15 because of a degenerative stifle condition.
Delta Prince is trained by Jimmy Jerkens.
“We had a few problems, but Jimmy Jerkens has always been really high on him,” said Adena Springs owner Frank Stronach.
