D'Amato mulls stakes options for Enola Gray

CYPRESS, Calif.– Enola Gray, the smashing winner of a maiden race for California-breds by 16 1/4 lengths in her debut April 10, could make her stakes debut at Santa Anita in May.
On Thursday, Enola Gray worked a half-mile in 47.60 seconds at Santa Anita. On Friday, trainer Phil D’Amato said he has numerous options for Enola Gray, including the $75,000 Angels Flight Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at seven furlongs May 15 against open company or the $200,000 Melair Stakes for 3-year-old California-bred fillies at 1 1/16 miles on May 28.
“We tentatively have the Cal-bred program mapped out,” he said. “We could switch sides and go to open company. It’s something to look at. I want to take it easy with her and go one step at a time. It depends on whether she’s ready to go two turns right away.”
Owned by breeder Nick Alexander, Enola Gray is by Grazen.
