ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Owner-breeder Ivan Dalos, Eclipse champion Ghostzapper, and trainer Mike Doyle were among the 2025 inductees into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame during a ceremony at the Mississauga Convention Center in suburban Toronto on Wednesday night. Thoroughbred builder inductee Ivan Dalos has been a successful owner-breeder for nearly 50 years. His Tall Oaks Farm bred Belmont Stakes winner Victory Gallop, an Eclipse Award winner, along with other Grade 1 winners Channel Maker and Kopion, who is currently among the leading older females on dirt in North America. Dalos campaigned the Grade 1-winning turf star Fly for Avie and the Canadian champions Avie’s Flatter, Amis Gizmo, and Ami’s Mesa, who lost the 2017 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint by a nose. At the 2021 Sovereign Awards ceremony, Dalos was bestowed the E.P. Taylor Award of Merit for his many contributions to the sport. Tall Oaks was voted the Sovereign Award for outstanding breeder in 2018 and 2020, and Dalos owned the outstanding broodmare award winners Galloping Ami, Victorious Ami, In Return, and Avie’s Empire. Female Thoroughbred inductee Marketing Mix banked just more than $2 million. Her career highlights included victories in the Grade 1 Rodeo Drive, the Grade 2 Nassau, and the Grade 2 Dance Smartly, all in 2012. She also ran second in the 2012 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf. Jockey inductee Perry Winters commenced his career in 1980 and was a top rider in Alberta for 33 years. He won 2,984 Thoroughbred races, including the 1983 Canadian Derby on Cozy Grey. His mounts earned $22.5 million. Thoroughbred male horse inductee Ghostzapper is widely considered to be among the top racehorses of the last 25 years. The son of Awesome Again captured the 2004 Breeders’ Cup Classic, which catapulted him to Horse of the Year honors in North America that year. He is credited with the highest Beyer Speed Figure ever recorded, a 128 in the 2004 Philip J. Iselin Handicap, as well as the highest Beyer in Breeders’ Cup Classic history, a 124. Now standing at stud in Ontario, the 25-year-old Ghostzapper sired Queen’s Plate winners Moira, Holy Helena, and Shaman Ghost. Moira won the Eclipse Award for champion female turf horse in 2024 after capturing the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Del Mar. Thoroughbred trainer inductee Mike Doyle conditioned Canadian champions Bessarabian and Wavering Girl, along with Wild Gale, who finished third in both the 1993 Kentucky Derby and Belmont Stakes. He has won 1,172 races and has career earnings of nearly $44 million. Thoroughbred veteran inductee Storm Bird was the champion 2-year-old in England and Ireland in 1980 before embarking on a highly successful stallion career. The son of Northern Dancer sired classic winner Summer Squall and Storm Cat, one of the leading North American sires of all time. Storm Bird also was a tremendous broodmare sire, with more than 100 stakes winners to his credit, including Kentucky Derby victor Thunder Gulch and the Grade 1-winning millionaire Commentator.
