Dalliance dangerous off stalking trip

Adam Goss|Jun 06, 2001

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Dalliance and Silver Rocket will be the ones to beat at Assiniboia in Friday's featured sixth race, a six-furlong conditioned allowance.

Silver Rocket, who will break from post 4, is the probable speed of the race. Trained by Darla Singh and ridden by Rohan Singh, Silver Rocket finished second behind Smoky Cinder in his first start of the year and then ran third behind Kalfaari and Dark Devil at this level May 21.

Dalliance drew post 2 and could benefit from a stalking trip, especially if Coltie or Elsarraf challenge Silver Rocket for the early lead. Trained by Patti Ross and ridden by Brian Harding, Dalliance was successful in his 2001 debut here May 19.

Trainer Don Korchinski has entered both G and L Special and Coltie but only Coltie is expected to run.

Rounding out the field will be Cap in Hand, Dark Devil and Royal Mac. Sassy Chimes was all out to hold off Mountain Crest here in last Sunday's Chantilly, winning by a head.

Pettycashyou finished third, six lengths behind the top two, and was followed to the wire by Step's Mischief, Itsacolddayinmay, Flicka, Misty Eagle, Cayenne Pepper, and Kool Ninety Eight.

Owned and trained by William Smith, Sassy Chimes finished the six furlongs in 1:12 under rider Alan Cuthbertson and returned $2.90. With the $16,500 winner's share of the Chantilly, Sassy Chimes has earned $49,440 and has won 5 of 6 lifetime starts.

Jockeys Anderson Ward and Danny Vergara won seven races apiece on the weekend. Vergara is currently tied with Cuthbertson atop the local rider standings with 18 victories.

Leonard Anderson, who was one five trainers to notch two victories last weekend, has saddled nine winners from 12 starters this year at Assiniboia Downs.
