Daiwa Scarlet retired from races

Alan Shuback|Feb 17, 2009

Daiwa Scarlet, a four-time Grade 1 winner in her native Japan, has been retired on the eve of what was to have been her Dubai World Cup prep, Sunday's February Stakes at Tokyo, as the Japan Racing Association announced that she was suffering from tendonitis.

Trained by Kunihide Matsuda, Daiwa Scarlet was Japan's champion 3-year-old filly in 2007, when she won the Japanese 1000 Guineas, the Shuka Sho, and the Queen Elizabeth II Commemorative Cup. A daughter of the Sunday Silence stallion Agnes Tachyon, she won 8 of 12 starts and was second in the other four, accumulating earnings of $7,390,071.
