Daddy's Secret has what it takes to win from far outside
:quality(75))
ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Daddy’s Secret has been saddled with the outside post 12 in Thursday’s second race at Woodbine, but she could make her turf debut a winning one in the nonwinners-of-two sprint for Ontario-sired allowance types and $40,000 claimers.
Trained by Rick Hayashi for The Estate of Paul Buttigieg, Daddy’s Secret placed in her last three 2-year-old outings in the fall before getting the winter off. She came up empty when resurfacing in a May 16 maiden race and then got another break before beating Ontario-sired maidens after an inside-stalking trip with a 71 Beyer Speed Figure on July 20.
Daddy’s Secret is by the good 12 percent turf sprint sire Frac Daddy. Her unraced dam has produced two winners from four turf starters, including restricted allowance winner Secret Load.
Emma-Jayne Wilson has been excelling on the turf of late and retains the mount on Daddy’s Secret, who has tactical speed and might not get hung out too wide on the turn in the seven-furlong event.
Among the others entered are Kinzie Girl, Lady On a Mission, Tap My Desire, Hymn to Her, Divinely Inspired, and Lady Izzy.
Kinzie Girl set a quick pace on a live rail last time before folding in the 1 1/8-mile Woodbine Oaks. She was previously a leading second at this level going 1 1/16 miles on the Tapeta behind the favored Z Train, and she’s gone unplaced in four grass outings for trainer Mike De Paulo.
Lady On a Mission is tagged for the first time off back-to-back seventh-place finishes against nonwinners-of-two allowance types. Trainer Patrick Dixon is removing the blinkers for the stretch-out.
Tap My Desire was knocking on the door before finally beating Ontario-sired maidens last out in her 14th start going seven furlongs on the Tapeta. Going back five years, trainer Phil Hall scored at a 9 percent rate with last-out maiden winners, with a return on investment of 59 cents.
Hymn to Her got away slowly before racing just off a golden rail when fourth in a similar spot July 25. She was previously a closing second going seven furlongs and has worked nicely leading up to this engagement.
Divinely Inspired got wiped out at the break and then failed to threaten July 20 in a five-furlong inner-turf dash at this level. She has performed erratically on the Tapeta and could run an improved race under Romero Maragh, who has solid numbers at the meet for leading trainer Mark Casse.
Lady Izzy is sent out by the meet’s hottest trainer, Sid Attard, who has been winning with about a third of his starters. She checked in second in each of her last two outings going long on the inner turf and was competitive in the majority of her Tapeta excursions.
Main-track-only entrant Velocita has been in poor form since beating $25,000 maidens in her May 9 season opener.
Post time for the seven-race card is 3:10 p.m.
