Six years ago, Daddys Lil Darling headed overseas for a tilt in the Epsom Oaks. But the plan fell apart at the last moment when the filly was unnerved by thunder and lightning on her way to the gate, lost her rider, and was a late scratch. In a nice bit of kismet, Daddys Lil Darling is now the dam of the early favorite for this year’s Epsom Oaks. Her first foal, Savethelastdance, scored a devastating 22-length victory in the Cheshire Oaks on Tuesday at Chester to stamp herself as a classic threat. Daddys Lil Darling, by Scat Daddy, won the Grade 1 American Oaks on turf; she also was a Grade 2 winner on dirt and finished second in the Kentucky Oaks. The millionaire was offered at the 2018 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale, and sold for $3.5 million to M.V. Magnier of the Coolmore group. She was bred to the operation’s late leading sire Galileo, and produced Savethelastdance as her first foal. Daddys Lil Darling is the dam of a juvenile Galileo colt named Mr Hampstead, and delivered a filly by four-time reigning leading U.S. sire Into Mischief this year. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
