Cyber Attack gets first stakes win in Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity
CYPRESS, Calif. – Mirroring the accomplishment of his 3-year-old full brother, Cyber Attack ended his 2-year-old season with a win in Sunday’s $1,884,225 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity.
Cyber Attack ($3.20) ran 400 yards in 19.50 seconds, finishing three-quarters of a length in front of 9-1 Jeriko. Hes Judgeandjury (7-2) finished third in his first stakes appearance since a win in the $3 million All American Futurity on Sept. 5 at Ruidoso Downs.
Cyber Attack, ridden by Eduardo Nicasio, broke sharply from post 9 and led by three-quarters of a length over Hes Judgeandjury after the first 100 yards. Jeriko, who did not have a sharp start, closed from seventh to catch Hes Judgeandjury in the final strides, finishing second by a nose. Jeriko closed more than a length on Hes Judgeandjury through the final 200 yards.
Cyber Attack, by Favorite Cartel out of Remember Me Rose, races for Connie Rosenthal and trainer Chris O’Dell. In 2021, Rosenthal and O’Dell teamed to win the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity with Bomb Cyclone.
Bomb Cyclone was purchased as a yearling for $215,000 in 2020, while Cyber Attack was purchased as a yearling for $400,000 at the 2021 Ruidoso sale. Bomb Cyclone and Cyber Attack were bred by Steve Burns of Menifee, Calif., who operates Burns Ranch.
Bomb Cyclone won the Los Alamitos Super Derby last month and was fourth as the 2-1 favorite in the $750,000 Champion of Champions in his debut against older horses on Saturday at Los Alamitos.
Cyber Attack has won 4 of 7 starts and earned $1,151,917. The Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity was his first stakes win, and third appearance in a major race. Cyber Attack was second in the $1 million Rainbow Futurity at Ruidoso Downs in July, but severely grabbed a quarter in that race. Because of the injury, Cyber Attack missed the All American Futurity trials in late August.
Cyber Attack was second by a nose in the $1.08 million Golden State Million Futurity at Los Alamitos on Oct. 30. Cyber Attack set the fastest qualifying time of 19.58 in trials for the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity on Nov. 20.
O’Dell said Cyber Attack will resume racing next summer at Ruidoso Downs, with the Rainbow Derby in July as an early goal.
