SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trainer George Weaver has canceled plans to send reigning Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint winner Cy Fair to Royal Ascot for the King Charles III Stakes on June 16. “She had a couple of days I wasn’t happy with her, and you can’t put them on a plane and go across the world when they’re not doing what you want them to do,” said Weaver. Cy Fair won three of her four starts and was just a neck shy of being unbeaten at 2. She closed out her juvenile campaign with back-to-back victories against males, beginning with the Algonquin at Woodbine as a stepping-stone to her one-length tally over trainer Aidan O’Brien’s European invader Brussels in the Juvenile Turf Sprint. Weaver freshened Cy Fair over the winter, bringing her back to finish third behind Slay the Day in the Grade 3 Limestone at Keeneland before avenging the setback with a one-length decision over that nemesis 20 days later in the Grade 3 Mamzelle at Churchill Downs. Slay the Day flattered both races when coming back to capture the Soaring Softly Stakes in popular and rather easy fashion here Sunday. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! "So we’ll go to Plan B, which is to try something at Saratoga. We haven’t picked anything out yet. They have several options. We just want her doing better than she is at the moment. “Obviously, it’s disappointing having to pull the plug at the last moment because it takes so much planning to put together a trip like this, but she doesn’t owe us anything. That’s just the kind of game we’re in with racehorses. Anything can go wrong at the last moment.” Although Cy Fair will be staying home, Weaver will be attending the races next month at Ascot, making a return trip with Sandal’s Song, who finished third a year ago in the Grade 2 Norfolk. Sandal’s Song ran second behind the Ascot-bound (Group 1 Commonwealth Cup) Outfielder in the William Walker Stakes last month at Churchill Downs.  “Sandal’s Song will run in a lesser handicap on the Friday card,” Weaver explained. “We already have the trip in place, so we’ll still go over and enjoy it without Cy Fair.” :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
