Cv Fdddinasty Shan held off a late surge from Faultless to win Sunday’s $960,000 Ed Burke Memorial Futurity for 2-year-old Quarter Horses at Los Alamitos, giving trainer Lindolfo Diaz his richest win.

Diaz, 38, trains Cv Fdddinasty Shan for his father, J. Francisco Diaz of Chula Vista, Calif.

Ridden by Armando Viramontes, Cv Fdddinasty Shan ($16.20) ran 350 yards in 17.60 seconds, winning by a nose over 7-2 Faultless. Officials needed three minutes to study the photo finish and declare a winner.

Cv Fdddinasty Shan broke sharply and led by a half-length over Nuclear Arsenal after 100 yards. Nuclear Arsenal (5-1) faded to finish third by a half-length. Zionsville, the 5-2 favorite in a field of eight, finished fourth.

Call Me Candela, winner of the $245,500 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity at 300 yards on May 10, finished last after a troubled start.

Cv Fdddinasty Shan, by Fdd Dynasty, is unbeaten in three starts and has earned $393,870. The win on Sunday was worth $386,400. The gelding was bred in the Mexican state of Chihuahua and purchased privately by Lindolfo Diaz early in 2025 as a yearling.

Lindolfo Diaz had his first winner in 2020. He has a 12-horse stable at Los Alamitos.

Cv Fdddinasty Shan gave Francisco Diaz his second win in the Ed Burke Futurity. He won the race in 2019 with Flokie, who was co-owned by trainer Jose Flores.

Lindolfo Diaz said Cv Fdddinasty Shan will race sparingly in coming months, with the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity in December as a long-term goal.
