ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Curlin’s Voyage, the 6-5 favorite under Patrick Husbands, edged out 65-1 bomb Justleaveitalone to capture the $125,000 Fury Stakes on Sunday at Woodbine.

The unbeaten Hastings shipper Infinite Patience went straight to the front in the seven-furlong sprint for Canadian-bred 3-year-old fillies, with the maiden Justleaveitalone pressing her all the way. Curlin’s Voyage saved ground in fourth some four lengths off the lead, and her stablemate, Avie’s Samurai, raced wide in fifth in the six-horse field.

Curlin’s Voyage and Avie’s Samurai both mounted a wide rally entering the stretch. Curlin’s Voyage dueled with Justleaveitalone in the last sixteenth and won by a head, in a final time of 1:23.91.

Infinite Patience weakened to third, and Avie’s Samurai flattened out to fourth. Mizzen Beau and Gun Society completed the order of finish.

A daughter of Curlin, Curlin’s Voyage ($4.60) earned $75,000 for Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings and Windsor Boys Racing.

Last year’s Canadian champion 2-year-old filly, Curlin’s Voyage was coming off a second in her season opener in the six-furlong Star Shoot Sakes. The Fury was her final prep for $500,000 Woodbine Oaks Aug. 15, according to trainer Josie Carroll.

“She was coming off a sprint, and she was pretty sharp today,” Husbands said. “We’re looking forward to two turns, so I tried not to snap her away from there. I let her break on her own. It was a cat-and-mouse game. By the three-eighths pole, I had enough of it, so I just had to get in gear and get the job done. You’ve got to work hard to make sure she gets the job done.”
