Curlin's Voyage placed first in Mazarine following DQ of Skygaze

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Curlin’s Voyage ($4.20) got the money in Saturday’s $145,250 Mazarine Stakes after front-runner Skygaze was disqualified in the Grade 3 fixture for 2-year-old fillies.
Skygaze cut off Take Charge Eh while going for the lead on the first turn in the 1 1/16-mile event. Skygaze proceeded to set quick fractions, as Curlin’s Voyage ran comfortably in fourth on the backstretch.
Curlin’s Voyage made a bid into second on the far turn, and was herded out wide by Skygaze in the stretch before coming up two lengths short of that rival. Skygaze was disqualified for both incidents of interference, and was placed behind Take Charge Eh in third. The final time was 1:43.30.
Eurico Da Silva rode Curlin’s Voyage, who was notching her first stakes for trainer Josie Carroll.
“I think this filly is still very immature,” said Carroll, who has won the Mazarine three times. “She’s still figuring out how to run, as you saw down the lane when that horse came in front of her. It took her a long time to get her momentum back. I think she settled better than the last time, but I think she’s still a filly with a bright future who has a lot to figure out.”
Curlin’s Voyage, an Ontario-bred daughter of Curlin, won $90,000 in her first stakes success for the partnership of Hill ‘n’ Dale Equine Holdings Inc. and Windsor Boys Racing.
