Curlin's stud fee at $175,000 for 2019
Two-time Horse of the Year and multiple classic sire Curlin's stud fee will climb to $175,000 for 2019, Hill 'n' Dale Farm has announced.
Curlin, by Smart Strike, stood for $150,000 in 2018. The stallion has sired a classic winner or classic-placed runner from each of his first six crops to race, represented by 2013 Belmont Stakes winner Palace Malice, 2014 Preakness Stakes runner-up Ride On Curlin, 2015 Belmont runner-up Keen Ice, 2016 Preakness winner and Kentucky Derby runner-up Exaggerator, 2017 Belmont runner-up Irish War Cry, and 2018 Derby runner-up Good Magic.
Good Magic, who earned the Eclipse Award as champion juvenile male of 2017, is one of two new stallions on Hill 'n' Dale's roster for 2019, and will stand for $35,000. The other newcomer is unbeaten but lightly raced Grade 1 winner Army Mule, who will debut for $10,000.
Kitten's Joy, North America's perennial leading turf sire and currently also leading the general sires list, will stand for $75,000 in 2019. Hill 'n' Dale's roster is rounded out by Violence at $40,000, Kantharos at $20,000, Maclean's Music at $25,000, Bayern, Flintshire, and Midnight Lute at $15,000, Stormy Atlantic at $10,000, and Atreides and Secret Circle at $5,000.
