Curlin's Approval will try to pull Rampart rebound

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Curlin’s Approval will look to rebound from a disappointing performance in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint when she stretches out to a mile for Saturday’s Grade 3 Rampart at Gulfstream.
A Grade 2 winner here earlier in the year, Curlin’s Approval will face six rivals, including the multiple Grade 2 winner Lewis Bay, who makes her first start since finishing second in the Grade 3 Comely at Aqueduct nearly 13 months earlier.

The Rampart is one of five graded stakes on Saturday’s card and one of two for fillies and mares on the dirt, along with the Grade 3 Sugar Swirl at six furlongs. A field of seven will start in the Sugar Swirl, led by defending champion Dearest, who has been idle since finishing fourth behind Curlin’s Approval in the Grade 2 Princess Rooney on July 1.
The Grade 3 Harlan’s Holiday lost its two most prominent nominees, Gunnevera and Neolithic, but still lured a field of eight, led by Breeders’ Cup Marathon winner Destin, Page McKenney, Grade 2 turf winner Flatlined, and Mr. Jordan. Conquest Big E, Fear the Cowboy, Joshua’s Comprise, Richard the Great, and supplemental nominee Frammento also will start.
