Curlin filly sells for $670K as OBS spring sale continues gains

A Curlin filly sold for $670,000 as the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training continued to post gains in its third of four sessions on Thursday.
For the day, OBS reported that 155 horses brought a total of $14,491,000, compared with 163 selling for a total of $11,151,000 at last year’s third session. The average price was $93,490, up 37 percent compared to $68,411 in 2020. The average price has been up in every session of this auction compared to the 2020 edition, which was pushed back to June by the coronavirus pandemic.
Thursday’s median price was $50,000, compared with $40,000 a year ago. The buyback percentage was unchanged at 19 percent.
The session-topping Curlin filly was purchased by Bradley Thoroughbreds from the consignment of de Meric Sales, as agent. She had breezed a furlong in 10 1/5 seconds on the Ocala Training Center’s all-weather Safetrack surface during last week’s under-tack preview show.
The filly is out of the Grade 2-winning Medaglia d’Oro mare Funny Proposition, the dam of two winners from three starters. She, in turn, is out of stakes winner Humorous Miss.
