Cup, owners have series accord

The Breeders' Cup has reached an agreement with the organizers of a proposed racing series to proceed with the series, but officials from both groups said no details of the agreement would be released until it is reviewed and approved by both organizations' boards.

The series is supported by a group of owners through the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. Called the Thoroughbred Championship Tour, it would link stakes races in several divisions leading up to the Breeders' Cup.

The Breeders' Cup board will review the agreement at a June 11 meeting, according to Jim Gluckson, a Cup spokesman. The board of the proposed series will meet next week to review the agreement, said Dan Metzger, the president of TOBA.
