Cumberland Run: Hoosier State's leading rookie trotting duo top KYSS victors
Indiana Sire Stakes champions Redice and Fifty And Famous picked up where they left off by winning in $40,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes events for 2-year-old trotters on Sunday afternoon at Cumberland Run.
Racing in a division for fillies, Redice (Atlee Bender) gapped the gate at the start from the outside post six but was able to get away well enough to tuck into the fourth position before the 28 2/5 quarter. Bender then moved Redice to the top going to the 57 2/5 half, and she went on to hit three-quarters in 1:26 3/5 as Hotlady Volo (Todd McCarthy) advanced first-over out of fourth. Redice was able to stave off Hotlady Volo around the last turn and through the lane en route to a half-length win in 1:56, while Your Grace (Marvin Luna) closed well for third.
Trainer Erv Miller co-owns Redice, a daughter of Rebuff bred by Kjell Magne Andersen, Lucas Wallin and Pieter Delis, with partners Anthony Lombardi and Stepbystep Racing. She has seven wins, a second and one third from 11 starts, has earned $323,600 and paid $3.18 to win.
