CTHS yearling sale offers 459 Canadian-breds

Ron Gierkink|Sep 02, 2011

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – A total of 459 Canadian-breds yearlings have been cataloged for the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society’s annual sale at the Woodbine Sales Pavilion on Sept. 5, 6 and 10.

A new format this year has the selected session divided into two days, instead of one. The sale begins at 7 p.m. on Monday, and the selected portion of the auction will continue on Tuesday beginning at 2 p.m. with Hip No. 71.

Among the major consignors are Paul Buttigieg and the agents Michael Byrne, Cara Bloodstock, John Carey, Hill ‘N’ Dale Sales Agency, Beth Hancock, Richard Hogan, Huntington Stud Farm, Paradox Farm and Woodlands.

A host of top Kentucky sires are represented, including Candy Ride, City Zip, Exchange Rate, Grand Slam, Kitten’s Joy, Langfuhr, Northern Afleet, Smoke Glacken, Tale of the Cat, and War Front.

Among the leading Ontario sires with offspring in the sale are Bold Executive, Old Forester, Peaks and Valleys, Philanthropist, Trajectory, Strut the Stage, and Where’s the Ring.

Paradox Farm will offer a Bold Executive colt who is a full brother to multiple stakes winner Legal Move.

John Carey will sell several progeny of last year’s leading Canadian freshman sire, Old Forester, including a daughter of stakes-placed Great Beauty, who is the dam of stakes winner Yankee Monarch.

Hill ‘N’ Dale’s large consignment includes a Tale of the Cat filly out of a Danzig mare, and a City Zip filly out of stakes winner Sago.

Cara Bloodstock has several offspring of hot freshman sire Weather Warning, who no longer stands in Ontario. Among them is a daughter of Shotanabeer, who is a half-sister to champion sprinter Kona Gold.

Saturday’s open session begins at 2 p.m. Among the 231 entrants are offspring of champion 2-year-old War Pass, champion turf horse English Channel, successful turf sire Sligo Bay, and the popular Bold Executive.
