CTBA to hold mixed sale at Fairplex Park in January
The California Thoroughbred Breeders Association will host a mixed sale at Fairplex Park in Pomona on Jan. 16, the organization announced on Thursday.
The mixed sale will replace an event held in past years by Barretts Sales, which is ceasing operations this year.
Barretts held a select yearling sale at Del Mar last Tuesday and will have a sale of yearlings and horses of racing age in Pomona on Oct. 16, its final event.
Barretts held a mixed sale last January in which 112 broodmares, horses of racing age, yearlings, and 2-year-olds sold for $1,226,400, an average of $10,950. The most expensive horse was Earnest, a 2-year-old colt by Quality Road, purchased for $120,000. Earnest was fourth at the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa on Aug. 10 in his debut.
