ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Crumlin Trouble deserves the nickname “Miss October” as she tries to win her third race this month in Friday’s Woodbine headliner for fillies and mares. The 5 1/2-furlong sprint for non-winners of three combines Ontario-sired allowance types with $40,000 claimers and goes as the seventh on an eight-race card. A $25,000 claim by owner-trainer Alex Patykewich in June, Crumlin Trouble took some time to earn her diploma. The 3-year-old won her second try against $15,000 maidens with the benefit of an inside bias when switching from 5 1/2 to seven furlongs Oct. 2, for which she got a much improved 61 Beyer Speed Figure. Everything went Crumlin Trouble’s way again on Oct. 18 when she moved up to meet $25,000 nonwinners-of-three company. Normally a stalker, she made the lead after nobody else wanted it and set a dawdling pace before coasting home on top by three lengths with a 64 Beyer. Daisuke Fukumoto, who’s having an excellent second half of the meet, retains the mount on Crumlin Trouble from post 1. Completing the lineup for the Friday feature are Rhaenyra, Foresters Exec, Reach for the Top, Enchanted Forest, and Suigu Belle. :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Having won the five-furlong Georgian Bay Stakes on the inner turf in June, Rhaenyra is the class of the field and could be the favorite, albeit a vulnerable one. She led until the final strides when third in the July 27 Thunder Bay Stakes before finishing a chalky second in another six-furlong main turf sprint at this level Aug. 15. Rhaenyra ran wide over an inside-favoring dirt surface at Fort Erie when far back in the Sept. 9 Rondeau Bay Stakes. She failed to stay the seven furlongs most recently when third at this level under apprentice Pietro Moran, who again has the mount for trainer Kevin Attard. Foresters Exec also had a wide trip when a well-beaten seventh in the Rondeau Bay, which came on the heels of a maiden-claiming score here on the Tapeta. She cut back to five furlongs on the inner turf in her latest and ran the race of her life to beat non-winners of two after mounting an eye-catching wide rally from fifth. Fraser Aebly will ride Foresters Exec again for trainer Patrick Dixon, who also entered longshot Reach for the Top. Reach for the Top began her career early in the summer with back-to-back victories with a $15,000 claiming tag in 5 1/2-furlong sprints. She lost her rider two back on the inner turf and was beaten nearly 20 lengths most recently on the Tapeta in another short claiming race. Enchanted Forest got away slowly last time before racing wide when a belated fifth against $25,000 stock in her third start for trainer Willy Armata. Suigu Belle wired $25,000 non-two opponents while drifting out in the stretch in a six-furlong Tapeta contest on Sept. 20. She has since worked three times and is making her debut for trainer Mike Mattine, who has mediocre numbers off the claim. Post time is 4:30 p.m. Eastern. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering? Check out DRF's Handicapping 101 and Wagering 101 pages.
