Crevalle d’Oro capped a busy autumn of travel, and an appearance at auction, with her first stakes win in Saturday’s $150,000 Suwannee River Stakes for fillies and mares on turf at Gulfstream Park. Ridden by Jorge Ruiz, Crevalle d’Oro was kept on the inside for the first six furlongs. Ruiz moved the 4-year-old filly off the rail leaving the turn and needed the entire stretch to catch 9-5 favorite Movin’ On Up. Crevalle d’Oro ($22.40) ran a mile in 1:32.31 and won by a head for her fifth victory in her 19th start. Crevalle d’Oro had a stalking trip, racing in sixth on the backstretch behind 69-1 Spinning Colors, who set a quick pace of 21.98 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 45.39 for a half-mile. Movin’ On Up, who was third on the backstretch, took the lead from Spinning Colors in early stretch and appeared poised for a win until Crevalle d’Oro’s successful rally. :: Play Gulfstream Park with confidence! Do Gooder finished fourth, followed by Feather Boa, Spinning Colors, Ultimate Authority, Belle of Rights, Sirona, and Leo Toro. Aussie Girl was pulled up by jockey Tyler Gaffalione on the first turn after she was bumped by Leo Toro and drifted out sharply. The Suwannee River Stakes was Crevalle d’Oro’s first start for owners TCC Stables and Michael and Jules Iavarone. They bought Crevalle d’Oro for $500,000 at the Keeneland November horses of racing age sale. Crevalle d’Oro joined trainer Jose D’Angelo’s stable after the auction last month. D’Angelo said in the winner’s circle that Crevalle d’Oro will be pointed to the Grade 2 Pegasus Filly and Mare Turf Invitational, a $500,000 race at 1 1/16 miles at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 24. Crevalle d’Oro, who has earned $415,144, started in her eighth stakes in the Suwannee River. Previously, her best performance in a race at that level was a second in the Grade 3 Selene Stakes at Woodbine in June 2024 when trained by Mark Casse. Crevalle d’Oro was fourth in the Grade 3 Goldikova Stakes for fillies and mares at a mile on turf at Del Mar on Nov. 1, days before she appeared in the sale in Kentucky. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
