Doublecents, who put up one of the meet’s highest Beyer Speed Figures for a 3-year-old this past season at Oaklawn Park, has a summer stakes objective at Churchill Downs, according to his trainer, Brett Creighton. He would like to make the Grade 3, $250,000 Maxfield, a seven-furlong race for 3-year-olds on June 28. But before then, Creighton would like to run Doublecents and on Friday he entered him in a first-level allowance that will be run May 29 at Churchill. “I think he needs another race,” Creighton said. “He’s lightly raced. He’s maturing and growing. We just want to do the right thing by him.” Doublecents has made two career starts. He debuted April 11 at Oaklawn and finished second to the highly impressive Munnings Challenge in a maiden special weight sprint. Doublecents returned at the same level May 2 at Oaklawn and romped by 11 1/2 lengths. He covered six furlongs in 1:09.42 and earned one of his local divison’s best Beyer Speed Figures, a 96. “He’s always shown a lot of ability,” Creighton said. “I feel real good about him. So far, he’s doing everything right. “If he runs good [in the allowance], we’d been looking at the Maxfield.” :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! He is owned by Keene Thoroughbreds. “We’re just kind of here at the farm, training, and thinking about running a few horses at Churchill and Evangeline,” Creighton said. “Just kind of pick places to go.” Creighton said Danny Keene selected Doublecents at auction. The son of Goldencents and the Uncle Mo mare Moka Latte brought $125,000 at the Texas 2-year-olds in training sale last year at Lone Star Park. “He’s put together nice,” said Creighton. Another notable runner for the barn is Max Got Excited. He won the Bachelor Stakes last season at Oaklawn and is coming off an allowance win at the track May 1. Creighton said Max Got Excited is being pointed for the $100,000 Louisiana Legends Sprint on June 6 at Evangeline Downs. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
