Michael Burns Creed's Gold, trained by Mark Casse, picked up the victory in Saturday's Grade 3 Hendrie at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The feeling going into Saturday’s Grade 3 Hendrie at Woodbine was that whichever Mark Casse-trained runner got the lead would be tough, and it was Creed’s Gold who prevailed in front-running style in the 6 1/2-furlong Tapeta sprint.

Creed’s Gold set honest fractions while pressed by Run for the Hills, as another stablemate, Ticker Tape Home, saved ground in third.

Creed’s Gold opened up a clear lead entering the stretch and then coasted home on top by 3 3/4 lengths over Ticker Tape Home, in a time of 1:15.54 seconds.

Nice as Pie rallied inside for third and Ms. Tart checked in fourth in the eight-horse field of fillies and mares.

Creed’s Gold ($11.20) gave jockey Rafael Hernandez his third winner on the card.

“I looked at the form and I definitely wanted to get out of there running,” Hernandez said. “If they let me have the lead, I was definitely going to get it. I tried to control the pace. If somebody wanted to go faster than me, it was going to be too quick and I was just going to [stalk]. Everything worked out good.”

A daughter of Jimmy Creed, Creed’s Gold earned $90,000 of the $156,000 purse in her initial stakes victory for owner Kristen Meldahl.
