ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The unraced supplement Credit River upset the applecart in Saturday’s $155,790 Ontario Racing Stakes at Woodbine, winning the inner-turf dash at 41-1 under Emma-Jayne Wilson. Credit River began slowly and trailed in the six-horse field on the backstretch, as Amsden dueled with Quick Tempo through a quick tempo in the five-furlong event. Sky’s Not Falling mounted a wide rally from fifth to hit the front in deep stretch, but Credit River’s closing bid was stronger, and he prevailed by three-quarters of a length in 57.06. Souper Classy wound up third, while even-money favorite Amsden faded to finish last. Ready to Repeat was scratched. :: Want to get your Past Performances for free? Click to learn more. Credit River is by More Than Ready and out of Wonder Where Stakes winner Like a Gem, the dam of the Grade 1-winning millionaire grasser Hard Not to Like. “This horse comes by his talent honestly,” Wilson said. “His mom was a multiple stakes winner that I used to ride, and one of his siblings is a Grade 1 winner. To see him flourish on the turf is no surprise. It was a tough task (for a) first-time starter, but he showed his talent today. I just let him get his legs. He got away from there okay, but he’s not as nearly quick as those guys were early, and I didn’t expect him to be. I gathered him up, and then when I asked him to pick it up, he didn’t even hesitate. He was all business.” Credit River ($84.20) collected $97,200 for Hillsbrook Farm. He was the first stakes winner for trainer Breeda Hayes.
