Creator and Gun Runner have first Saratoga works

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Belmont Stakes winner Creator and Kentucky Derby third-place finisher Gun Runner both worked for the first time on Tuesday since their arrival in Saratoga last week.
Creator went a solo half-mile in 49.40, according to Daily Racing Form clocker Mike Vesce, completing his final quarter in 24.20 before galloping out five-eighths in 1:03 and pulling up six furlongs in 1:16.40.
Gun Runner worked in company with stablemate Steal Case, breezing five furlongs in 1:01.40 with a final quarter in 23.40 before galloping out six furlongs in 1:14.80, according to Vesce.
Both Gun Runner and Creator are trained by Steve Asmussen.
Creator is scheduled to make his next start in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy here on July 30, while Gun Runner is expected to return in the Grade 1 Haskell at Monmouth Park on July 31. He drew off to an easy 5 1/4-length triumph in the Grade 3 Matt Winn at Churchill Downs in his most recent start.
Both horses have the Grade 1 Travers here on Aug. 27 as their major goal this summer.
