Crazy Hot burns up the track in debut
ARCADIA, Calif. – Crazy Hot left trainer Jeff Bonde delightfully stunned with her debut, a maiden race for 2-year-old California-bred fillies at Santa Anita on Saturday. Sent off as the 9-5 favorite, Crazy Hot took the lead shortly after the start and blasted clear through the stretch to win by a remarkable 10 3/4 lengths in 52.44 seconds for 4 1/2 furlongs.
“You can’t predict a horse to win by that many lengths,” Bonde said. “She’s done everything right.”
Ridden by Geovanni Franco, Crazy Hot led by six lengths with a furlong remaining.
“When she was asked to run, she showed what running is like,” Franco said on Sunday. “It’s exciting to see what the future holds for her.”

Owned by Ed Brown and Corey Thabit, Crazy Hot, by Goldencents, was purchased for $75,000 as a yearling. She earned $36,600 on Saturday.
Bonde said he will consider running her in California-bred stakes at the Del Mar summer meeting and perhaps in the $100,000 Fasig-Tipton Debutante at Santa Anita on June 17.
Crazy Hot had tipped ability when she worked earlier this spring with Fly a Fantasy, another Bonde-trained 2-year-old California-bred filly who won her debut in a maiden race at 4 1/2 furlongs at Santa Anita by 3 3/4 lengths on April 29..
On Sunday, the California-bred colt Refocus won his debut by 4 1/4 lengths under Mario Gutierrez. Refocus dueled for the early lead in the 4 1/2-furlong race before establishing a one-length lead with a furlong remaining.
By Pavel, Refocus races for owners and breeders Paul and Zillah Reddam and trainer Doug O’Neill.
