Other than the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and Kentucky Oaks, Phoenix Thoroughbreds III’s Crazy Beautiful has never finished out of the exacta. Trainer Ken McPeek is hoping for another good effort when the daughter of Liam’s Map starts as the 122-pound highweight and likely favorite under Mike Smith in Saturday’s Grade 3, $300,000 Delaware Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles at Delaware Park. “She was really unlucky in the Kentucky Oaks, but she’s a hard-trier and she seems to be on form,” McPeek said Thursday. “I mean, the Gulfstream Park, Summertime Oaks, and Delaware, it’s kind of like a little bit of a triangle.” A multiple Grade 2 winner this year, Crazy Beautiful recently shipped to Santa Anita for a stalking victory over favored Soothsay in the Summertime Oaks. McPeek mentioned that she’s “had a couple of maintenance breezes going into this. Pretty basic stuff. She’s pretty uncomplicated at this stage.” Crazy Beautiful will race with Lasix for the first time in the 1 1/16-mile Delaware Oaks. :: Bet the races with confidence on DRF Bets. The National Weather Service had issued a flash flood watch for the area between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning, with continued rain showers expected through Saturday. McPeek brushed off concerns about the surface. “That won’t bother her,” he said. Trainer John Servis also won’t fret about weather conditions. Both of his Delaware Oaks entrants – Midnight Obsession and Leader of the Band – have won over off going. Midnight Obsession snatched her first two starts at Parx Racing and Belmont, before finishing a half-length short against older fillies and mares in the Lyphard Stakes for Pennsylvania-breds on May 28 at Penn National. “I had her in both spots, the Lyphard and the Penn Oaks,” Servis said. “We were getting bad weather, and they were both supposed to be on the grass and I figured they would come off. I decided to go against the older horses, and I thought she ran great. The winner ran to her at the head of the lane like she was going to run right by her, and my filly dug in well and fought hard and they drew away from the rest of the field. I was very impressed.” Hopes were high for the Overanalyze half-sister to stakes-winning Midnight Poker since day one. “She had shown some ability, and we were a little excited about her,” Servis said. “We took advantage of the Pennsylvania race first time. Quite frankly, the only reason we went to New York is because the allowance race at Parx wasn’t going.” :: Get Daily Racing Form Past Performances – the exclusive home of Beyer Speed Figures Leader of the Band has never been off the board from five starts and will stretch out around two turns for the first time. Servis believes “she’ll handle the distance fine. Her gallop-outs have been really strong, and I expect a big effort from her also.” Stakes-placed Juror Number Four also tries two turns. By Into Mischief out of a Malibu Moon mare from a speedy family, Juror Number Four was stymied by tough trips in her two starts this year. Brittany Russell trains Juror Number Four for Cash Is King LLC and LC Racing. Orbs Baby Girl, winner of the off-the-turf Penn Oaks, is cross-entered as main-track only in the Christiana Stakes earlier on the card. She looms a strong pace presence if she competes here. Hybrid Eclipse, also cross-entered in the Christiana, has won three of her last four starts for trainer Linda Rice. Exogen, She a Hot Mess, and Baby Gundin complete the field.
