Crazy Beautiful completed an Oaks triple when the odds-on favorite dominated the competition at Delaware Park in Saturday’s Grade 3, $300,000 Delaware Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/16 miles. Owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds and trained by Kenny McPeek, Crazy Beautiful captured the Gulfstream Park Oaks earlier this spring and seized the Summertime Oaks at Santa Anita Park on May 30. She has won half of her 10 lifetime starts. Racing with Lasix for the first time, Crazy Beautiful broke nicely under jockey Mike Smith and settled into a three-wide tracking position as Penn Oaks winner Orbs Baby Girl set fractions of 23.75 and 48.22 seconds while pressured by Hybrid Eclipse. Hybrid Eclipse made the first move and the lead on the second turn, but she was soon set upon by Crazy Beautiful and the favorite took command with a minimum of fuss. She stayed straight and strong in the stretch to score by six lengths in 1:46.33 seconds. Crazy Beautiful paid $2.60 to win. :: Bet the races with confidence on DRF Bets. Last year, she had a couple of races where things didn’t go right, like the Alcibiades or even the Breeders’ Cup. It was a really good spot for her today.” Midnight Obsession got up for second and was 2 3/4 lengths better than her John Servis-trained stablemate Leader of the Band. Hybrid Eclipse faded to fourth and was followed home by She a Hot Mess, Orbs Baby Girl, Baby Gundin, Juror Number Four, and Exogen. McPeek mentioned the Grade 2, $500,000 Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga on July 24 as a possible next start for Crazy Beautiful with the Grade 1, $600,000 Alabama on August 21 as a long-term goal. “She’s gone point-to-point-to point. Gulfstream Park Oaks, California, Delaware. Now she’s going to New York. Is she almost a carbon-copy of Swiss Skydiver? If she could win the Alabama, she could put herself in that category.” Kent Yes This Time won his fifth consecutive start by rallying from last to take the Grade 3, $150,000 Kent Stakes for 3-year-olds at 1 1/8 miles on soft turf at Delaware Park. Ridden by Joe Bravo for trainer Kelly Breen, the son of Not This Time has displayed tremendous versatility during the current streak. He has won from both on the lead and from dead last over both firm and soft turf courses, and his ability to adapt to any scenario aided him in the Kent. Yes This Time settled at the back of the pack while Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Steaks winner Like the King meted out dawdling fractions of 25.63 and 51.21 seconds. Like the King rebuffed Eamonn’s far-turn challenge as Yes This Time steadied slightly along the rail, but the pacesetter left the inside open turning into the stretch and Bravo took advantage. Owned by Edge Racing, Kentucky-bred Yes This Time surged through to look Like the King in the eye and the even-money favorite kept kicking to prevail by one length in 1:52.39 seconds. Like the King held second. It was another length back to Wootton Asset in third. Doubleoseven, Eamonn and Be Here completed the order of finish. Yes This Time paid $4.20 to win. Yes This Time has won six of seven races since being switched to turf. The reformed $30,000 maiden claimer recently landed the $75,000 English Channel Stakes at Gulfstream Park on May 8.  Main-track-only entrants Shackled Love and Vikram both scratched. Gershwin was also withdrawn and is expected to contest Monday’s Dwyer Stakes at Belmont Park. Christiana Out of Sorts is becoming a Cinderella story for trainer Brittany Russell as the $1,000 yearling purchase earned her first stakes victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Christiana for 3-year-old fillies on rain-softened turf at Delaware Park. Ridden by Russell’s husband, Sheldon, Out of Sorts broke outward leaving the starting gate, but soon tapered in to save ground at the back of the six-horse field. Meanwhile, favored Caldee and jockey Carol Cedeno set measured fractions of 24.08 and 48.56 seconds. Caldee attempted to sprint clear turning into the stretch, but Russell maneuvered Out of Sorts three paths off the rail and the daughter of Dramedy rallied stoutly in the lane to score by three lengths. Caldee stayed on for the place, a half-length ahead of Mia Martina. Be Up, Viburnum and Triple Digit completed the order of finish. Out of Sorts raced the 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.29. She paid $7 to win. Owned by Respect the Valleys LLC, Out of Sorts won her maiden by 10 3/4 lengths on dirt last year as a second-time starter. She polished off her juvenile campaign with stakes placings in both the Smart Halo and Gin Talking on dirt at Laurel Park. Already rock-solid on dirt, Out of Sorts has blossomed in 2021 since stretching out around two turns and switching to turf. She missed by a nose in her seasonal debut against older allowance horses at Pimlico on May 15, then returned the following month to get past that condition with a strong late kick. Dramedy won the Grade 2 Elkhorn Stakes at 1 1/2 miles on turf at Keeneland and is also the sire of 2020 Queen’s Plate winner Mighty Heart. Out of Sorts’ dam was a stakes-placed dirt sprinter and her second dam won the Misty Isle Stakes over soft turf at Arlington Park. Hybrid Eclipse and Orbs Baby Girl were cross-entered in the Delaware Oaks and opted for that spot. Malibu Beauty and Striking Chrome also scratched. Alapocas Run About 35 minutes after accepting the Christiana trophy, the Russells were back at it again as favored Whereshetoldmetogo nailed down his 11th lifetime victory in the $50,000 Alapocas Run at six furlongs on the main track. Whereshetoldmetogo likely gave Sheldon Russell supreme confidence after a sharp break had the Maryland-bred son of El Padrino pushing Always Sunshine’s early pace while three paths off the rail. Always Sunshine carved out splits of 22.47 and 45.49 seconds, but Whereshetoldmetogo loomed boldly outside the veteran Grade 3 winner and took over the lead for good at the three-sixteenths pole. Whereshetoldmetogo kicked clear despite failing to change leads and skipped under the wire four lengths better than Always Sunshine. It was another 2 3/4 lengths back to Golden Candy in third. Threes Over Deuces, Speightsford and Classy Solution rounded out the order of finish. Owned by the partnership group of Madaket Stables, Ten Strike Racing, Michael Kisber and Black Cloud Stable, Whereshetoldmetogo ran six furlongs in 1:10.89 seconds over the good and sealed main track and paid $4.40 to win. Whereshetoldmegogo emerged as one of the Mid-Atlantic region’s top sprinters last year after finishing first in four consecutive stakes (he was disqualified and placed second in Delaware’s New Castle Stakes last fall). Whereshetoldmeto underperformed in the Frank Whiteley Stakes at Pimlico on April 24, finishing ninth as the odds-on favorite, but the 6-year-old had a valid excuse. Not only did he have his back heels clipped during the opening furlongs, but Brittany Russell mentioned that he bled through Lasix that afternoon. Hauntedbythemusic, Tappin Cat, Sibelius and Borracho scratched.
