Covfefe to breeze Friday for Test Stakes

Covfefe is scheduled to have her final pre-race breeze Friday at Churchill for the Grade 1 Test Stakes on Aug. 3 at Saratoga.
“We won’t ask her for too much,” said trainer Brad Cox, who is headed back to Saratoga this weekend but has spent much of this summer in Louisville. “She had a fantastic breeze here last week,” referring to a six-furlong work in 1:11.20 last Friday, which was her third breeze since the filly finished a close third in the June 22 Roxelana at Churchill.

Covfefe, who will ship early next week to Saratoga, is expected to face Serengeti Empress and Bellafina in the seven-furlong Test. The Cox-trained Break Even, unbeaten in six starts, has been diverted to the Aug. 31 Prioress at Saratoga for her next start.
Meanwhile, Monomoy Girl continues to thrive at Churchill since returning July 14 from a lengthy rehab stint following a bout with colic. Cox said: “Everything is positive. She’s moving great, just amazing. We haven’t zeroed in on her first breeze. I need to put some more miles under her, but I couldn’t be happier with her.”
Monomoy Girl, the champion 3-year-old filly of 2018, has won nine of 11 starts and more than $2.95 million.
