Covfefe among stakes-bound Cox stars

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Covfefe is scheduled to breeze again this weekend at Churchill, marking her fourth work since the 3-year-old filly set a track record for six furlongs (1:07.70) in her last start, the May 17 Miss Preakness at Pimlico.
Trainer Brad Cox said Wednesday he is still unsure whether Covfefe will run in the July 5 Victory Ride at Belmont Park or train straight into the Grade 1 Test on Aug. 3 at Saratoga. Cox also has the undefeated Break Even pointing to the Test.
As for other Cox stable stars, Owendale runs Saturday in the Ohio Derby; Mr. Misunderstood is expected his make his 5-year-old debut next week in a turf allowance at Churchill; Beau Recall likely goes next in the July 13 Diana at Saratoga; Arklow probably won’t race again until the Aug. 10 Arlington Million; and champion Monomoy Girl is expected back at Churchill “in a couple weeks” from a rehab assignment at WinStar Farm after recovering from colic, Cox said.
Warrior’s Charge, fourth as the pacesetter in the Preakness in his last start, was stricken recently with colic and now is at WinStar after undergoing successful surgery.
“He’s fine, thankfully,” Cox said. “He’ll be away from the races for a few months, I imagine.”
