Courageous Cat to stand at Questroyal North in New York

DRF Breeding Staff|Nov 20, 2012

Grade 1 winner Courageous Cat will stand the 2013 breeding season at Questroyal North in Stillwater, N.Y. Questroyal, located just outside of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., will stand the 6-year-old Storm Cat horse in partnership with Lane’s End, where he entered stud in 2012 at a fee of $10,000. His 2013 fee has been set at $6,000 live foal.

Racing as a homebred for breeders Martin and Pam Wygod, Courageous Cat won six of 15 career starts with four graded stakes victories, including the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile Stakes in 2011. He also finished a close second to champion Goldikova in the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Mile. He retired with earnings of $1,165,760.

“Lane’s End has the highest expectations for Courageous Cat at stud because of his impeccable breeding, race record and conformation,” said William Farish of Lane’s End, which purchased an interest in Courageous Cat after his retirement. “We are excited to partner with Questroyal Stud in standing Courageous Cat in New York. Lane’s End and Martin and Pam Wygod, who bred and campaigned Courageous Cat, plan to continue to support him during his second year at stud and welcome the opportunity to participate in the New York breeding program.”

Out of the multiple Grade 1-winning Rahy mare Tranquility Lake, Courageous Cat is a full brother to Grade 1 winner and young Lane’s End sire After Market, as well as Group 2 winner Jalil.

“With the arrival of Courageous Cat at Questroyal North, New York breeders are going to have the rare opportunity to breed to a magnificent Grade 1-winning son of Storm Cat out of a Grade 1-winning Rahy mare,” Barry Ostrager, principal owner of Questroyal North, said. “Courageous Cat was one of the top milers of his generation and Questroyal North is absolutely thrilled to stand Courageous Cat for such marvelous connections.” Courageous Cat, first-year stallion Boys At Tosconova, and El Corredor, who relocates from Kentucky for 2013, will join Patriot Act and Roaring Fever on the roster at Questroyal North.
