HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A pair of main-track allowance races could prove key for handicappers looking to narrow down their options in Sunday’s Rainbow 6 sequence at Gulfstream Park. The Rainbow 6 features the mandatory payout of a pool which is expected to top out at approximately $5 million. The first of the allowance races, a one-other-than at 1 1/16 miles on the main track, will go as the eighth event on an 11-race card and third leg of the Rainbow 6. A field of just seven has been entered, with Only in America likely to be singled on many Rainbow 6 tickets. He exits a second-place finish to stablemate and odds-on favorite Accelerize under similar conditions here two months earlier. The winner flattered the race when he returned to upset Fair Grounds’s Grade 3 Louisiana Stakes with a 97 Beyer Speed Figure in his 2026 debut. Those looking for a little extra coverage in the Rainbow 6 will undoubtedly turn to Steeze and Statesman, who finished second and third, respectively, behind the 3-5 favorite Time to Win going a mile on Jan. 17. Only in America easily defeated Time to Win when earning his diploma last summer at Saratoga. :: Get Gulfstream Park Clocker Reports from Mike Welsch and the Clocker Team. Available every race day.  Statesman does get a little extra credit for his performance, having finished in the deeper footing well inside the bias-aided Steeze while returning from a nine-month layoff in the pair’s previous encounter. The co-featured 10th race and penultimate leg of the Rainbow sequence is carded under high-priced optional-claiming and allowance conditions going 6 1/2 furlongs for older fillies and mares. That race may also feature a popular single, the Grade 3 stakes winner Nic’s Style, second best in both the Sugar Swirl Stakes and under allowance conditions in her last two local appearances. The speedy Pleasant Embrace offers a logical alternative to the favorite. The Grade 3 winner Eclatant and stakes-winning Libban are question marks returning off extended vacations. The remainder of the Rainbow 6 races, three of which will be contested on the turf, look extremely wide open and may require a lot more coverage to survive. Sixth race There are only seven starters in the first leg, a seven-furlong, mid-level conditioned claimer on the main track, but no real standouts to single here. Shadow Coast, who has been training forwardly for his local bow, may ultimately prove the speed of the speed second off the claim for trainer Rohan Crichton. Bear Claw Necklace also figures to be prominent from the outset, stretching out a furlong off a distant second-place finish to the odds-on Rocketeer for the same tag last time. Wistucky drops off the claim but must avoid getting bogged down on what has been a dead rail. His stablemate Maruvy could prove the best late threat while well posted outside but is a question mark on dirt. Seventh race A lot of unknowns in this extremely wide-open five-furlong maiden special weight turf dash. Jubilee Parade is logical off a promising debut around two turns over the surface as is Wit Storm, who has a turn of speed and is working well on the grass at Palm Meadows. Of the five first-time starters in the lineup, both Zephyros and Starship Salute have looked good prepping for their debuts over the Tapeta course. Ninth race Hot Blooded appears to be a standout on paper on the class drop, having dominated the same kind by five lengths back in August. Those looking to beat the favorite will have plenty of options to choose from, including the old pro Souper Dormy, who appears to be the lone speed assuming Grand David doesn’t draw in off the also-eligible list. Souper Dormy stretches out for the first time in a long while but did win around two turns with a 94 Beyer over this course in his younger days. Can’t dismiss Nate the Great either. He is getting back on the turf after a prolonged absence and is well spotted for the occasion. 11th race Those fortunate enough to still be alive will want to have plenty of coverage heading into the finale, which in this case is the always unpredictable bottom-level maiden claimer on grass. Playful Pal is not only a new face to the category but looks like the controlling speed. He might stand some catching if he gets loose in his two turn and turf debut. Both David Pepperman and Witcha Wish are logical, having finished second and third, respectively, for the same tag on Tapeta a month earlier. Self Loader poses a big question mark switching to grass and on the big class drop for the always dangerous Saffie Joseph Jr. ◗ Through Thursday, the carryover pool had reached $459,324. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
