Cooper sweeps 2-year-old stakes

Trainer Kay Cooper swept both stakes for 2-year-olds Sunday at Emerald Downs, when Koron captured the $50,000 Barbara Shinpoch and A View From Above accounted for the $50,000 WTBOA Lads.
Koron ($30) dueled with 2-5 favorite Gold N Glitter through an opening quarter in 22.98 seconds and proceeded to lead through a half-mile in 45.93 before going on to cover 6 1/2 furlongs for fillies on a fast track in 1:19.04.
Koron won by 5 1/2 lengths over Gold N Glitter It was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third to Wegottodrinking.
Kevin Orozco was aboard Koron, who is a daughter of Nationhood.
Koron races for Blue Ribbon Ladies and is now 2 for 2 following a maiden special weight score Aug. 7 at Emerald Downs.
A View From Above ($10.20) set the pace for a length and a quarter win over favorite Cobra Jet in the WTBOA Lads, which was for colts and geldings. It was another 10 3/4 lengths back in third to Sargent Kline.
A View From Above put up fractions of 21.54 seconds for the opening quarter and 43.81 for the half-mile, and went on to cover 6 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:17.33.
Julien Couton was aboard the winner, who is by Abraaj.
A View From Above races for Grasshopper Stable and William Stenberg. He is now 2 for 2, with his other win coming in a maiden special weight July 11 at Emerald.
* Earlier on the card, Christine’s Jack ($2.60) was a 20 3/4-length winner of a $2,500 claiming race going a mile.
