Cool Ventura runs down Approval Rating

Under a well-timed ride by Real Simard, Cool Ventura captured the by 2 3/4 lengths at Northlands Park Sunday.

Cool Ventura appeared to be eager during the early stages of the race, but Simard got him to relax behind a quick pace set by the 4-5 favorite, Approval Rating. He made a strong move around the stretch turn, and after making up almost eight lengths in the stretch, Cool Ventura was a comfortable winner over Approval Rating, who held on to finish second. I'm the Guy made a late move to finish third.

Setting fractions of 48, 1:12.20, and 1:37.20 for the mile, Approval Rating opened up a 13-length lead at the six-furlong mark. He was 7 1/2 lengths clear at the top of the stretch before running out of steam in midstretch.

Final time for the 1 3/8 miles over a sloppy track was 2:17.40.

Trained by Cody Anderson, Cool Ventura paid $5.40 as the second choice in the wagering.
