Contenders Profiles Claiming Series Leg 1 Division 2—Race 8

DRF Staff|Feb 01, 2012

Division 2—Race 8

1. Castle Pines
Owner: Charles Holshouser
Trainer: Nick Lowe
Jockey: Eliska Kubinova
Might have tipped his hand last time as he stretched out really well by opening up to a big lead and holding on. With the rail draw, expect Eliska to have this one running early. Horse should be more fit with that route under his girth.

2. Capella Etoile
Owner: Mike Wilkins and Just Horsen Around
Trainer: Jim Fergason
Jockey: Mark Anderson
Confirmed closer still has a condition left, but seems to run strong late, so if there is enough pace up front, he very well could be running strong at the end.

3. Carlsbad Lagoon
Owner: Clockwise Racing
Trainer: Jonathan Nance
Jockey: Debbie Hoonan
Golden Gate Fields runner is another who likes to come from far off the pace and do note that his biggest win came over a traditional main track surface at Santa Rosa, so surface should not be an issue as he comes off the synthetic at GGF.

4. Robs Hero
Owner: Harvey White
Trainer: Bob Beckner
Jockey: Ruben Camacho
Came back to PM last start and ran a dull fifth, beaten more than ten lengths. Clearly he likes a route of ground and if he gets back to his best career form from yesteryear, he could be dangerous.

5. Mikalouie
Owner: Juanita Jones and Parry Wells
Trainer: Juanita Jones
Jockey: Jorge Rosales
Confirmed speed runner seems to pop up every once in a while to run a big one. It will be tough for him to get an easy lead with both Turntable Bay and Castle Pines in this event though.

6. Ezinmotion
Owner: Jose De La Paz
Trainer: Don Young
Jockey: Luis Torres
Has been very sharp sprinting lately, however a look at his only career route race shows him getting crushed by forty two lengths. However he seems like a new horse since then, so maybe he can stay around a little longer today.

7. Turntable Bay
Owner: Howard Belvoir
Trainer: Howard Belvoir
Jockey: Javier Matias
This runner has come alive in recent starts including a big win at 14 to 1 last time out in the Charlynn Taketa Memorial, which was a good race. Logical favorite in this race and should sit just behind Mikalouie and Castle Pines and then pounce.

8. I Am the Jazzman
Owner: Sharon Balcom or Peggy Buckley
Trainer: Sharon Balcom
Jockey: Jose Zunino
Comes off a win routing and this runner definitely seems to prefer two turns to one. This Washington bred was running over in Kentucky and West Virginia before coming back West and that last start makes it look like he enjoys being home.

9. Tribute To Sissy
Owner: Karen Tilden
Trainer: Sam Tilden
Jockey: Lance Bullock
Last four starts have been pretty dull since winning his non-3 lifetime condition back in November. Bullock gets on board for the first time for a horse who certainly likes to to go two turns.
