Construction begins on second Laurel barn
The Maryland Jockey Club has started construction on the second of three new 150-stall barns at Laurel Park.
“We’re looking forward to completing the barns by the spring of 2016,” said Sal Sinatra, the Maryland Jockey Club’s general manager.
The first new barn was completed this year as part of a $7 million renovation that included a number of capital improvements. More than 150 flat-screen TVs have been installed, and the Maryland Jockey Club simulcast signal is now broadcast in high definition. A state-of-the-art simulcast room is going to replace the Wilwyn Theater at Laurel.
When the third barn is completed, the cost of the entire project is estimated to be $10 million.
