Constitution weanlings top Book 4 opener at Keeneland November
LEXINGTON, Ky. - Two weanlings by breakout freshman sire Constitution sold for $150,000 and $145,000, respectively, to lead Monday's session at the Keeneland November breeding stock sale.
Keeneland reported 253 horses sold on Monday, the Book 4 opener, for revenues of $7,413,700, including private sales. In the comparable sixth session of the 2018 sale, 242 horses sold for $7,755,900.
The session's average price was $29,303, down 9 percent from $32,049. However, the median increased 10 percent, to $22,000 from $20,000. The buyback rate also improved, to 23 percent from 26 percent.
The session-leading Constitution colt was purchased by Dailey Bloodstock from the consignment of James M. Herbener Jr., as agent. The colt is out of the winning Dixie Union mare Spikes, dam of seven winners from as many starters, including stakes-placed Powerpointer. Spikes is a full sister to stakes-placed Cognac Kisses, and graded stakes winner Vinceremos appears on the catalog page.
Earlier in the session, John Cummins had gone to $145,000 for a Constitution filly from the consignment of Alliance Sales Agency, as agent. The filly is out of the Tiznow mare Red White and Blu, who is the dam of one winner from a pair of starters. Red White and Blu's dam is a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner Colonel John, as well as to Grade 1-placed Mr. Hot Stuff, who went on to become a Grade 1-winning steeplechaser; Grade 3-placed Caroline's Gold; and stakes-placed Kayce Ace, dam of Grade 3 winner Comical.
Multiple Grade 1 winner Constitution, by leading sire Tapit, stands at WinStar Farm. He ranks second only to Triple Crown winner American Pharoah on the freshman sire earnings list, and is tied for third by individual winners. He is the sire of Grade 1 Champagne Stakes winner Tiz the Law, along with additional graded stakes winners Amalfi Sunrise, By Your Side, and Independance Hall.
