Conquest Typhoon finishes second in a maiden race
Michael Burns Conquest Typhoon (No. 4), who has two second-place finishes, is looking for his first win in the Swynford.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Conquest Typhoon will look to win his maiden in stakes company when he takes on five others in the $125,000 Swynford Stakes, a seven-furlong sprint on Polytrack for 2-year-olds Sunday at Woodbine.

Conquest Typhoon has finished second in both of his starts, running behind Seffeara in the Clarendon Stakes in his career debut July 12 and Passion for Action in a maiden race over six furlongs on turf Aug. 3.

“He’s been training very well,” said trainer Mark Casse. “He’s a nice horse. He’s run two really nice races. I would think that he’d be fairly tough.”

Casse also has entered Conquest Boogaloo in the Swynford but isn’t sure if just one or both horses will run Sunday.

“I may scratch one of them and run in the Summer,” he said, referring to the Grade 2 stakes Sept. 13. “I haven’t decided yet, but I would find it highly unlikely that we would run both.”

Swynford Stakes (race 8)

KEY CONTENDERS

Conquest Typhoon (Last 2 Beyers: 66-62)

◗ Conquest Typhoon set an extremely slow pace in that six-furlong grass race Aug. 3 before giving up the lead late to Passion for Action. Passion for Action nearly upset Conquest Typhoon’s stablemate, Conquest Tsunami, in his next start, the prep for the Grade 2 Summer Stakes.

◗ DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Trainer Casse and jockey Patrick Husbands have combined to win 31 percent of their 36 starts together with 2-year-olds in non-graded stakes over the past five years, an angle that has a return on investment of just $1.53.

Glenville Gardens

◗ A first-time starter for trainer Josie Carroll, Glenville Gardens has been busy on the work tab, recording regular workouts since the end of May. He has had plenty of time to get ready for this one and has drawn the outside.

◗ DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Carroll has won 16 percent of 70 starts with 2-year-old first-time starters over the past five years for a ROI of $1.63.

Conquest Boogaloo (Last 2 Beyers: 53-13)

◗ Conquest Boogaloo has been tardy out of the gate in his first two starts but quickly made up a five-length deficit in the stretch to win last time out Aug. 10 at this distance.

◗ DRF FORMULATOR FACT: Casse has a 20 percent strike rate from 105 starts with 2-year-olds in stakes races over the past five years, with an ROI of $2.15.
