Conquest Strate Up faces males in stakes debut in Vice Regent

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Conquest Strate Up will face males in her stakes debut in Sunday’s $125,000 Vice Regent Stakes for Ontario-sired 3-year-olds over one mile on Woodbine’s turf course.
Conquest Strate Up is unbeaten in two career starts on the Woodbine turf, defeating open company in her career debut July 1 before skipping a condition to beat Ontario-sired non-winners of three in her most recent start July 22. The daughter of Not Bourbon was supplemented to this race by leading trainer Mark Casse and has posted two published works since her July 22 start, most recently breezing five furlongs in 59.80 seconds on the main track here Aug. 20.
KEY CONTENDERS
VICE REGENT S. (RACE 9)
Conquest Strate Up (Beyers: 74-76)
◗ She’s gotten away slowly from the gate in both of her starts, which could be a concern as the horse to beat in this field likely will be forwardly placed.
Kingsport (Last 3 Beyers: 91-82-74)
◗ He earned a career-best 91 Beyer Speed Figure while winning the Deputy Minister Stakes last time out July 22. He’s likely to be close to the pace after winning his only turf start in gate-to-wire fashion two starts back July 4.
Born in a Breeze (Last 3 Beyers: 77-77-74)
◗ He overcame a wide post to win his most recent start at this distance on turf by 2 3/4 lengths against Ontario-sired non-winners of two and should be coming with a late run.
Sam-Son pair in Belle Mahone
Also on the Sunday card is the $100,000 Belle Mahone Stakes, an overnight stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack. The race has attracted a field of five, including two supplements, and is headed by Sam-Son Farm stablemates Checkered Past and Smartyfly.
BELLE MAHONE S. (RACE 6)
KEY CONTENDERS
Checkered Past (Last 3 Beyers: 90-89-64)
◗ She had to wait for running room in her last start in the Grade 3 Ontario Matron Stakes and just missed in the late going. She did win the Trillium Stakes at this distance two starts back June 13.
Smartyfly (Last 3 Beyers: 83-88-86)
◗ She exits a seventh-place effort in the Grade 2 Dance Smartly Stakes on July 5 and will make her first start on Polytrack since the 2014 Ontario Matron, where she finished ninth and earned a 78 Beyer.
Theogony (Last 3 Beyers: 76-75-82)
◗ She could be the one with the best chance to threaten the stablemates, but she will be making her first start of the season.
