Conquest Enforcer runs away with Cup and Saucer

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – The favored maiden Conquest Enforcer ran away and hid from his opponents Sunday in the $251,600 Cup and Saucer Stakes, a 1 1/16-mile turf test for juveniles.
Conquest Enforcer ($8.60) stalked along the inside in third as Gigantic Breeze set moderate fractions with Shakhimat in close proximity.
Conquest Enforcer anxiously awaited room early in the stretch. After finding a seam, he split rivals to make the lead at the eighth pole and drew off for a 6 3/4-length score over Butterfly Dance. Shakhimat finished another two lengths back in third in the 12-horse field of Canadian-breds.
Over a course labeled good, the final time was 1:43.17.
Patrick Husbands rode Conquest Enforcer, who banked $150,000 for Conquest Stable and trainer Mark Casse. The son of Into Mischief was coming off a fourth in his debut in the Grade 2 Summer Stakes.
“He’s a pretty nice horse,” said Husbands. “By the time we left the gate, he wanted the lead. I had a little fight with him the first six or seven strides, and then he relaxed. When he got daylight, he just showed that he was the best horse in the race.”
