Concrete Rose returns to work tab, targets Jenny Wiley

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Concrete Rose, a standout 3-year-old turf filly of 2019, had her first work since being sidelined last summer when going three furlongs in 36.80 seconds Monday over the Palm Meadows turf.

Trainer Rusty Arnold said he is looking to make the Grade 1 Jenny Wiley on April 4 at Keeneland with Concrete Rose, and if she can’t make that race, he’ll point her to the Grade 2 Churchill Downs Distaff Turf Mile on May 2.
Concrete Rose won all four of her races last year, all stakes, before being diagnosed in August with a hairline fracture of the right foreleg. The injury did not require surgery.
Ortizes to miss big day at Gulfstream
The Ortiz brothers, Irad and Jose, both will be riding in Saudi Arabia next weekend and therefore will miss the Fountain of Youth card, which includes eight other stakes. Their absences will create opportunities for a number of jockeys who will stay behind, including Javier Castellano, who would pick up the mount on Structor if Chad Brown opts to run the colt in the Fountain of Youth.
Structor would be making his dirt debut after going undefeated last year in three starts, all on turf. Irad Ortiz rode the Palace Malice colt in his first two races, and Jose Ortiz rode him in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf.
Hutcheson fails to fill
Two six-furlong stakes anchor the Saturday card at Gulfstream, although there was supposed to be three. The Hutcheson Stakes failed to draw a sufficient number of entries and has been tentatively rescheduled for March 1.
As it is, the Saturday features are the Grade 3, $100,000 World of Trouble Sprint (race 9) for older horses and the $75,000 Any Limit (race 11) for 3-year-old fillies. First post for a 12-race program is noon Eastern.
◗The 10-race Friday card includes a pair of $44,000 allowances for Florida-breds and starts at 1 p.m. The Rainbow 6 jackpot won’t be nearly as inviting a target as in recent weeks, since it was emptied Monday by a solo winner for $1,208,573.
The winning 20-cent ticket was purchased through Xpressbet and cost just $51.20 using this selection pattern (number of horses): 1 x 8 x 2 x 2 x 8 x 1.
