Comely Stakes next stop for Miss Marissa

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Miss Marissa, upset winner of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes on Oct. 3 at Pimlico, is on target to make her next start in the Grade 3, $100,000 Comely Stakes on Nov. 27 at Aqueduct.
On Nov. 5, Miss Marissa worked five furlongs in 1:02.82, her second work since beating Bonny South by a neck in the Black-Eyed Susan.
“She’s had one work in company and one by herself,” trainer Jim Ryerson said. “We’re real happy with how she’s improved with stretching out.”

Miss Marissa, a daughter of He’s Had Enough, won just once in her first nine starts. At 2, she finished last of 10 in the Grade 2 Demoiselle last December when stretched out to 1 1/8 miles for the first time.
She will enter the Comely off three consecutive wins around two turns, with allowance victories at Monmouth and Saratoga preceding her Black-Eyed Susan score.
“When I tried to do stretch her out at 2, it backfired,” Ryerson said. “This year, she’s been running better. Prior to the pandemic, she got a little light on me. Before she went to Monmouth I said let’s see how she runs with some weight on her.”
