Come Back Native ($23.60) controlled the pace and withstood a late challenge by favored Camisado as he won the $18,350 Humboldt County Marathon in the final race at the Humboldt County Fair on Sunday. Jockey Barrington Harvey put Come Back Native on the lead, and the 5-year-old gelding, who had been running at bottom claiming levels most of the year, rated comfortably. He was first under the finish line all four times around the track. Camisado, last through the opening half-mile, worked his way into contention but could not match strides with the winner down the stretch, losing the 1 5/8-mile race by 1 1/2 lengths. He was a neck in front of Quarter Moon. Winning time was 2:52.50. Bred and owned by Leroy Krum, Come Back Native earned $11,800 while winning his fourth race in 25 starts. He was trainer Quinn Howey’s third winner of the day. Howey earlier scored consecutive victories with Whispering Dixie in the fifth and teamed with Harvey aboard Acekingqueenjacten in the sixth.
