Columbus track report

Bill Hodtwalker|Aug 04, 2004

COLUMBUS, Neb. - Gene DeRoin made a big move in the trainer standings last weekend. After being shut out with five starters on opening weekend, he sent 10 horses to the post last weekend and scored doubles on both Saturday and Sunday to move into a three-way tie for second in the standings.

David Anderson leads the way with six wins, followed by DeRoin, James Compton, and Marv Johnson with four wins each.

Filmer Munaylla, riding first call for much of Anderson's stable, has opened a solid 14-6 lead over Dennis Collins in the rider standings. Collins also was shut out opening weekend but returned with a riding triple on Friday.

Friday evening's crowd of 3,010 was the largest reported attendance at this track in the past two seasons.
