Colt brings $310K at Ocala

The Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's April 2-year-old sale entered its third of four sessions Thursday with its highest price of the 2007 auction so far. That was the $310,000 that George E. Coleman paid for Hip No. 947, a son of Cape Town and On Top of That, by Gate Dancer.

That was the highest price of the session at 5:30 p.m. The colt drilled a quarter-mile in 21.20 seconds at the April 20 under-tack preview, the fastest time over the distance that day. Eisaman Equine, agent, sold the bay Florida-bred.

The sale showed losses at Wednesday's second of four sessions in Ocala, Fla., with gross receipts declining 19 percent from last year, with 210 horses selling for $5,751,700. The average price fell 21 percent to $27,389, with the median level with last year's figure, $19,000. The buy-back rate rose from 17 percent last year to 24 percent.
