Colonial: Dubleo looks formidable

Joe DeVivo|Jul 22, 2004

Dubleo, who crushed seven opponents in his first try on turf two weeks ago, looms a heavy favorite in the $50,000 Chenery, a five-furlong grass race for 2-year-olds at Colonial Downs.

The 75 Beyer Dubleo earned for his eight-length win against first-level allowance runners July 10 is 25 points higher than the next-best turf figure among his eight opponents.

If anyone can upset Dubleo, it might be one of the two first-time starters trained by John Scanlan. Domybadpartnerin is the first foal of Champagne Royal, second in the Grade 2 Orchid and the Grade 3 Matchmaker on turf. Tim's Last Chance is out of Pleasant Pat and a half-brother to Pleasant Drive, the third-place finisher in the Grade 2 San Vicente in 1998.
