The 7-year-old mare Suzzona has been on an extensive turf-sprinting roll, putting together a record of 8-2-1 from 12 turf starts over the last two calendar years. Her lone subpar performance during the period came in the Buckland Stakes last summer at Colonial Downs, and Suzzona should be favored to make amends when she meets nine rivals in the 2011 edition of the $50,000 Buckland.\r\nTrained by Ben Feliciano for owner Sandy Valley Farms, Suzzona enters the five-furlong Buckland on a three-race winning streak, having captured The Very One stakes by a neck on Black-Eyed Susan Day at Pimlico last month before scoring a comfortable high-end allowance-race victory last out at Parx. That win, however, came on June 14, and the last time Suzzona attempted a turnaround this short, she finished sixth in the 2010 Buckland.\r\nEven if Suzzona doesn’t regress, the 4-year-old filly Supreme may prove a handful. Never worse than second in five career starts, Supreme was closing quickly in The Very One, her most recent race, and missed catching Suzzona by only a neck. She figures to have more upside than her older rival and has been posting steady works at Fair Hill for trainer Leigh Delacour. \r\nColony Club and Ahvee’s Destiny also can be considered for a high placing.
