BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Colloquial, the 3-year-old who earned a 106 Beyer Speed Figure winning a maiden race by seven lengths at Aqueduct on Feb. 7, returned to the work tab Thursday morning at the Palm Beach Downs training center, going an easy half-mile in 52.78 seconds.  Daily Racing Form clocker Dave Norton caught Colloquial in splits of 13.74 seconds and 27.28 as the horse was going very easy throughout.  “He did fine. He did what I wanted. Let him stretch his legs, see how he responds,” trainer George Weaver said. “We’re not on top of a race, just something to get back on a breeze pattern.”  Though Weaver said Colloquial “will be nominated everywhere,” he indicated the $400,000 Lafayette Stakes, a seven-furlong race on April 4 at Keeneland, “makes the most sense to me.”  :: Access the most trusted data and information in horse racing! Colloquial, a son of Vekoma owned by Harrell Ventures and Starlight Racing, was beaten a nose by Mentee in a June 15 maiden race at Aqueduct, which went in a track-record 56.97 seconds for five furlongs. Colloquial didn’t run again until Feb. 7, when he roared to a seven-length score at Aqueduct, covering 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:16.89. The 106 Beyer was the highest recorded by a 3-year-old before Magnitude won the Risen Star Stakes with a 108.  “The horse ran real big. We’re all on the same page as far as giving him some time from that race to the next one – at least five or six weeks, if we can,” Weaver said. “Other than that, they’re aware of the spots, I’m aware of the spots. We’re going to nominate him to everywhere and see how things develop.”  * Fierceness, the Travers and Florida Derby winner a year ago and the 2-year-old champion of 2023, returned to trainer Todd Pletcher’s base at Palm Beach Downs on Tuesday and galloped there Wednesday and Thursday morning. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
