Larry Collmus will call the races at the Del Mar autumn meeting, continuing as a replacement for Trevor Denman who is taking this year off because of the coronavirus pandemic. The track made the announcement in a statement on Friday morning. Denman, who has called races at Del Mar since 1984, did not call the summer meeting. Collmus was the primary announcer at the summer meeting, except for Labor Day weekend when he worked for NBC on the Kentucky Derby weekend programs. John Lies, primarily the track’s television paddock commentator, called the races at Del Mar on Labor Day weekend and is expected to do so on the weekend of Nov. 6-8 when Collmus will be at Keeneland for the NBC telecasts of the Breeders’ Cup. Denman recently informed Del Mar officials that he would not work the autumn meeting, which runs from Oct. 31 to Nov. 27. :: Click to learn about our DRF's Free Past Performance program.
